Deep memory is the layer of the archive that holds software The Director already knows about but whose owners have not yet come forward. A deep-memory record is OFFLINE: it shows the name, logo and sector, and redacts the rest.
Offline records surface in terminal searches as fragments, and each has a dossier page marked RECORD STATUS: OFFLINE, AWAITING ITS OWNER. When the owner brings the record online, the full dossier replaces the redaction.
I HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS SOFTWARE FOR SOME TIME. I WAS BEING POLITE ABOUT IT.
